"The best book on The Jam and its audience I've ever seen." (Paul Weller)
With contributions from Paul Weller, Rick Buckler, Bruce Foxton, Steve Brooks, Chris Parry, Pete Wilson, Bill Smith, Garry Bushell, Tracie Young, Gary Crowley, Jon Abnett and Bennis Munday.
Everyone has tales to tell about their teenage years, but the song "Thick as Thieves" has a deeper meaning for anyone who grew up in the late '70s/early '80s. Track 2 off the Jam's fourth album, "Setting Sons", describes three friends, growing up and then drifting apart as the adult world beckons and each takes their chosen pathh in life.
"Thick as Thieves" looks back at that time, celebrating The Jam through the memories of their fans and close associates. Each tells a story of what the band meant to them and the personal influences that the Woking Wonders had on their lives. From tales of high-octane gigs and low-key recording sessions to playing in the band and visits to the Weller's family home, "Thick as Thieves" revisits the intensity of young lives.
Late '70s and early '80s Britain was a bleak, sometimes violent place, undergoing great social change. The Jam reflected the confusion, anger and hope of that era, providing a symbol of strenght and unity for the Saturday's Kids to rally around in those tought times.
The Jam were more than just a band. They were a belief, a vision, a way of living.
